Assam is a north eastern state of India. The capital is situated at Dispur, which is on the suburb of the Guwahati. Assam is located south of the eastern Himalayas, and comprises of the great the Brahmaputra and the Barak river valleys and the Karbi Anglong and the North Cachar Hills. It has an area of 78,438 square kilometres and is almost the size of Ireland or Austria. Assam is surrounded by the rest of the Seven Sister States: Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya. Assam also shares international borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh;
Assam is known for it Greater Adjutants, Great Indian One-horned Rhinoceros, its tea and its rich biodiversity. It has successfully conserved the one-horned Indian rhinoceros & Greater Adjutants from near extinction. It is a must destination for birders & wild-life watchers. Kaziranga and Manas are both World Heritage Sites. Assam was also known for its Sal tree forests and grasslands. Assam is endowed with lush greenery and the mighty river Brahmaputra, whose tributaries and oxbow lakes provide the region with a unique to observe waterfowl.

Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is renowned as one of the finest and most picturesque wildlife refuges in southern Asia. It protects the world's largest Indian rhinoceros population, as well as many other threatened species. It is situated on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River at the foot of the Mikir Hills.

Nameri Tiger Reserve
Nameri Tiger Reserve is nestled at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas; it covers an area of 200 Sq. Kms. Situated in the eastern border of Assam valley and mountainous Arunachal Pradesh, it’s a very scenic sanctuary with river Jia Bhoroli bifurcating through.

Dibru-Saikhowa Tiger Reserve
The little known wildlife sanctuary of Dibru-Saikhowa is an area of grassland and swamp forest sandwiched between the Brahmaputra and Dibru rivers in the east of Assam. Contained between these rivers, the park is a 340km2 reserve, which was set up with a view to protecting the grassland and swamp habitat on the flood plains of the Brahmaputra River.


Manas National Park
Lying on the foothills of the Himalayas, Manas is the most stunning pristine wildlife habitat in India, comparable to the best in the world in the beauty of its spectacular landscape. It is also a UNESCO Natural World Heritage (in danger) site, a Project Tiger Reserve, an Elephant Reserve and a Biosphere Reserve - a unique distinction.
